Welcome February!

Welcome February!

We have to start off by saying we have been blown away by the amazing creativity the January prompt generated. Your various solutions to re-designing the Esther block were so inspiring!

When you finish your February block, you will be half way through this year-long adventure and to celebrate, we've paired with the fabulous Hyggeligt Fabrics to offer a special Halfway There prize.

Here are the details: Make a block in February, post it publicly on Instagram with our hashtags OR email us your name and a photo of your block at estherblocksewalong@gmail.com ( if you DON'T want us to share your work on social media, please tell us, otherwise we love to inspire others by sharing on our Instagram accounts). When we see your work we will add you to the list (we do a random draw) to be entered to win a $100CAD gift card to Hyggelit Fabrics. There will be one entry per maker, no matter how many blocks you may make this month. and please note, if we haven't commented, we haven't seen your work, so please get in touch another way!

Hyggeligt Fabrics ships worldwide, so we are thrilled to be able to offer this to ALL participants, regardless of location. Click on their logo below to check them out !

For February we are going to tone it down a notch and give a nod to Valentine's day. This month's prompt is to make a heart by joining groups of two of the jewels together visually.

Sara made this beautiful block. You can see that she used the same fabric in two of the jewels that creates a heart shape. Her choice of using only three fabrics in the block is a clever and effective design idea.

Laura created this one- similarly she used sets of two of the same fabrics for her jewels to make three hearts in the center and surrounded them with a distinctly different fabric to make them stand out .

Here is another block by Sara. This one is understated, and didn't turn out quite as she had planned. She used three different colors from the same fabric in order to make a very subtle heart motif. If you are wanting to make your hearts POP, fabrics that read more solid or that are more distinct are a better option.

And one more from Sara (can you tell we had fun with this prompt - or that our maiden name is HART?!?). Sara made hearts in the center then created that cool swirl going around it by playing with color placement -

love it!!!!

We hope you have fun with this month's prompt if you chose to try it. As always, there is no pressure to follow the prompts, they are just here to give you ideas and inspiration toward different ways to approach your blocks. We LOVE to see all you create!

When you have made your hearts and assembled your blocks please post them up on Instagram or Facebook! Tag us and use the sew-along hashtags to help us find and share your beautiful work!
