Welcome May!

Hard to believe another month has flown by! As always, we just love seeing what you all create each month. Here is a fresh prompt to get your mind rolling on a new block for May.

May’s prompt is to: use two different fabrics for the jewel shapes in the center.

Now you may want to alternate them as we have, or perhaps you would like to put them together in groups of three - effectively making two halves. It’s all up to you.

Here are some of our blocks to get you thinking:

This sweet fox block is one from Sara- she chose two use two contrasting fabrics that crates a nice pinwheel effect.

Laura struggled a bit with this one. She had a lot of false starts...here are a few of them

She was looking for two fabrics that really played off one another.

And finally settled on this:

Sara also alternated the jewels in this Christmassy block during our “cut it up and make it something new” prompt in January.

The same print in different colorways is one way to mix it up.

as always, if this prompt doesn't speak to you, just make a block you love. This whole sew-along is more about giving ideas for new ways to approach a block and less about "rules"! As always, please tag us when you post on social media, so we can ooh! and ahhh! over your fabulous creations and share with others for inspiration!

The social media algorithms don't always work the way we wish. If we haven't commented, you can bet we haven't seen your post - so please shoot us a private message so we don't miss yours ! Everyone who posts is in the running for our end of the month draw - and we wouldn't want you to miss out!

…a little business to finish things up... We are changing the way we send out emails for the sew-along!

We have sooo many people receiving sew-along emails (yay!!) that the website we are using wants to charge us to send through them (boo!). We were able to extract the list and pull it into our sew-along gmail account - so we are hoping the changeover will be seamless for most. The email to announce this May blog post is going out the old way, and it will be the last one to be sent that way.

We sent a test email using the gmail list on April 29th and would ask that you check that you received it.

  • If you did, then great! There is nothing to do.

  • If you didn’t, please check your spam folder and make sure we aren’t in there. If we are, please mark us as a trusted address and all should be fine going forward.

  • If you didn’t receive anything (we noticed that a few bounced) please send us a note at estherblocksewalong@gmail.com and we will troubleshoot the problem and get everything corrected.

Thank you for your patience as we make this change!!

Happy sewing! 🧵🪡
